With Good Grace....Or Not

On Saturday afternoon we visited Barrington Court - Tudor mansion house in Somerset - also famous now for being the location shoot, along with Montacute House, for the TV series of  Wolf Hall.

On Saturday night I'm ill...headache ...cold ....sore throat....temperature....stomach pain....can't sleep....have the 3am terrors....sweat it out. Think I'll have to cancel Sunday plans but what will Robin do then? Can't face a day stretching ahead -  me feeling ill and him bored and restless, not able to go out. So I dose myself with Paracetamol and we drive off to meet our friend as arranged at Bovey Castle - small country hotel with golf links built by the WH Smith  family-  in the middle of Dartmoor.
It's a beautiful warm day -  as if Spring just arrived .... the staff are extra helpful - even park the car for me....we have coffee and little homemade oat biscuits in the very salubrious lounge...sit in deep squashy sofas which Robin has great difficulty getting up from.....to go to the loo....to have a little wander....to ask for more biscuits.....to get a straw.

He's not sure he wants to walk but in the end we have a saunter in the grounds, round the lovely lakes, avoiding the golf course. The plan was to have lunch in Mortonhampstead but Robin wants to go home so we leave our friend  there and head back across the moor in heavenly sunshine.

My paracetamol has worn off so I go to bed and doze till Robin comes and asks me to put his dressing gown on ....and make a cup of tea ....and blow his nose. It's never going to stop, this caring thing, it doesn't matter how rubbish you feel when you are someone else's arms and hands you just have to do it.....sometimes with good grace and sometimes not.
