Hands for gratitude.
Hands for hugs.
Hands for holding.
Hands for serving.
Helping hands.
In the loving embrace of Robin's family at the weekend. His hands are flailing but his heart is wide open.
Today he cuts his time short with his visitors and sleeps a lot in the aftermath of so much care and kindness .....and travelling.
And I feel the toll of the all the driving, in rain and holiday traffic..... and the strain of holding him always in my mind....is this too much for him? or not enough?..... and trying to remember everything to do to get us there and back ....with easy to mash food and latex gloves and ice packs for the smoothies...and birthday presents and the satnav.
The toll is tiredness but that can be slept away. The reward is knowing this time with the people he loves is precious. But there maybe a way to share these precious people without the price of this exhaustion. That's what I'm planning for anyway.
Garden lavender for my mother who would have been 96 on Sunday.
And thanks to Robin's brother in law for some of the photos...
