Extreme Self Care

At New Year we watched these birds from a hide overlooking the estuary at Budleigh Salterton - fascinated by their frenzied splashing and flapping in circles and skid landing on the surface water with great squawks and calls......having a wonderful bathing party or some sort of mating ritual.

I'm reading - actually re-reading -  a book by Cheryl Richardson called The Art of Extreme Self Care. It  sounds like one of those TV sports programmes - like  the art of extreme fishing......out on the edge, dangerous, challenging, drastic.

Which of course Self Care is - if you are someone like me - to challenge the concept that "self care is selfish" is definitely dangerous.....to put my needs, wants desires before someone else's, especially a loved one, is a very drastic process.

In one chapter she asks you to make a list of the areas where you feel most deprived  - which usually leads to resentment blame and martydom.

Top of her list is feeling deprived of sleep.

Me too. So I'm resolving to be in bed by 11pm which is in 5 minutes time. Which feels very challenging as now the time has run out to edit this post.

So be it - me first tonight.

  1. 'Me first' - such a simple concept and doesn't it make life so much simpler - but so difficult to sustain. Bx
